Mrunal Shah - Founder of Sunday Bricks

MRUNAL SHAH

With a penchant for languages, a passion for learning and a pursuit to lead effectively by creating a nurturing environment that’ll influence the growth of those around me; I am self-motivated, an opportunist, with a constant drive to get better at things and of course, myself. Being a fitness enthusiast is an integral part of who I am.

10+ years of experience in the language (translation & localization) industry and after completing the ‘Train the Trainer’ program offered by Dale Carnegie Training (India), I now spread my wings to initiate my interest towards LEGO® bricks, as the founder of Sunday Bricks.

Sunday Bricks is a weekend workshop program that aims to enthrall the children and helps bring out spatial thinking and creativity. Our objective is to motivate the concept of ‘Learning through Play’ and help children develop significant skills using bricks.

My team and I started with holding weekend workshops with LEGO® bricks in Navi Mumbai and now we have set venues for our signature workshops across Mumbai. It has been a great experience in being associated with these events –

  • 2019 – Attended the LEGO® Ideas Conference, Billund
  • 2019 – Completed the Six Bricks Facilitators Course from Care for Education, South Africa
  • 2020 – Reviewer at the Jr. First LEGO® League, Mumbai
  • 2020 – Complete the Basic Course – LEGO® Therapy (conceptualized by Dr. Daniel LeGoff)

Chief Play Advisor

Dr. Mamta Shah - Chief Play Advisor at Sunday Bricks India

Dr. MAMTA SHAH

I am very excited to serve as the founding Chief Play Advisor (CPA) for Sunday Bricks for at least two reasons. First, I got to pick my title. Second, I get to talk to my brother (who lives 7,861 mi away) on a regular basis and to plan the next big play-inspired leap Sunday Bricks might venture into.

Albert Einstein once said that “Playing is the highest form of research.” Thus, in my role as a CPA, I help Mrunal and his team to be conscious of the educational significance of every workshop Sunday Bricks offers. We want every child who attends any number of the Sunday Bricks workshops to explore the world through the medium of play.

I earned my bachelors and master’s degrees in Human Development from the University of Mumbai. I earned my PhD in Education from Drexel University in Philadelphia, USA. Currently, I hold the following appointments- Postdoctoral scholar at the Games and Learning in Interactive Digital Environments (GLIDE) lab at Drexel University, Adjunct Faculty in the School of Education at Drexel University, and Adjunct Faculty in the Professional Institute of Educators and Masters of Education at University of the Arts. In these roles, I work with educators in formal (schools) and informal settings (e.g. afterschool program like Sunday Bricks) to leverage technological and pedagogical innovations involving play (e.g. LEGO, maker spaces, game-based learning) to support learners’ engagement in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM).

I am a mother of an almost 5-year-old and a wife of a chemical engineer. Since the summer of 2017, our son has shown deep interest in art. Taking his lead, we have explored multiple forms of performing (cirque du soilel, music concert, theatre) and fine art (screen printing, tie and dye, collograph, claymation, sun printing).

I take play seriously in my personal and professional life. As such, I am highly invested in bringing in the best to Sunday Bricks and the families that put their faith in it.
